Do you know what to look for when you are buying a brand new car? What you need to understand are car dealerships are meant to sell new cars as quickly and as often as possible and if they don’t do this then they will end up losing a lot of money and potentially going out of business. The reason I bring this up is because you need to know why car dealerships do what they do when they do it in order to know what you are supposed to watch out for.
One thing you need to watch out for is whether or not you will be able to trade in your car for another one. Why I mean is that some dealerships have a limit as to how old a car can be in order to be traded and because of that you want to give the dealership all the details about the trade-in so that way you are not wasting your time filling out paperwork and talking with management as opposed to finding another dealership who will accept your trade. What I suggest doing is calling all dealerships that you would like to see about dealing with and see if they would accept your trade, the next thing you need to do is see what you can get for it. Just remember that you will get roughly 40% of the value of the car and no more than that.
Another thing you need to look for when buying a new car is what comes with the car. Do you get a long term warranty or does it expire after a year or two. You need to make sure you have at least a 3 year full warranty on the new car because with the way automakers have been making cars lately you don’t want to get stuck with a recall and then be stuck paying for a rental car. On top of that warranty you need to look out for packages that really won’t benefit you. For instance if you are going to get a roadside assistance package for an extra $200 a year that would be great but make sure that it is available in the state that you will be traveling in the most. This is something I have been burned with before and when I figure it out it the assistance package was just about up.
You should also be sure you have adequate insurance on your new car as repairs to the bodywork on a new motor could prove costly!
